
Before you apply, make sure you meet of the following sets of PMP Certification requirements:
- A four-year degree
- 36 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
- A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
- 60 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
How to earn project management education/training?
- One hour of Classroom instruction equals one contact hour.
- If you attend a 9 hour long session with breaks in-between, then you can claim (9 hours minus the break time) as contact hours.
- You may use educational hours from college programs.
- There is no time period or expiration on contact hours.
- These hours can be accrued from classroom courses or online training workshops.
There are several Instructor Led and Online training courses to earn 35 PDU’s
Course 1: Fundamentals of Project Management ($655) and
Course 2: Project Management: Practical Application ($1,960) seminar
Choose your session:
- Spring or Fall sessions meet Thursdays, 6-9 p.m. (16 weeks)
- The Summer Intensive meets Mondays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m. (8 weeks)
- The 2-day Fundamentals Bootcamp meets 8:30 a.m – 4:30 p.m. to give you a head start on completing your certificate.
In-person classes take place on U of L’s ShelbyHurst Campus. By completing your certificate, you will fulfill the formal education requirements needed to apply for the Project Management Professional® (PMP) and Certified Associate in Project Management® (CAPM) exams. You will also earn a total of 48 hours/professional development units (PDUs)
- It means that you have performed the role of a project manager and managed a complete project, or that you have managed part of a project. Essentially, it means that you should have done some of the tasks that are listed in PMP Exam Content Outline, pages 8-14 for examples of tasks related to People, Process or Business Environment Domains.
- The hours of project management experience are cumulative across all process groups, and within the last eight (8) years to be counted on the PMI PMP application.
- Working as a full-time project manager with two projects at the same time (approx.~160 hrs) for two months = 320 hours or experience.
- Typically, the experience is in leading or directing projects, or project deliverables. The months of experience time frame requirement in non-overlapping months.
- Working as a full-time project manager with two projects at the same time for two months = 2 months of experience, not 4.
- When documenting your PM experience, you’ll want to keep track of your projects and training, recording information like your specific role, responsibilities, and length of projects or training so that you have it at hand when you apply.
- The 35 hours of project management education can be waived if you have a CAPM certification.

- It typically costs $139 to become a member, but it saves you money on exam fees.
- The standard non-member price to take the exam is $555. The PMI member price for the exam is $405.

- Completed undergraduate application
- $25 non-refundable application fee
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.25 to be admitted in good standing (applicants with a 2.0 – 2.24 GPA may inquire about conditional admission)
- Official transcripts for all college credits earned at an accredited institution*
- Copy of official JST
- Minimum age: 22
- Prior education: 24 college credit hours or more completed prior to applying
