About VEST
Veteran Education Symposium for Teachers (VEST) is an initiative between the UofL VALLO program and the Kentucky Department of Education to improve teacher retention rates of veterans across the state. The UofL program supports this overarching goal by providing the military veteran with the necessary knowledge and skills focusing on pedagogy and curriculum. This program offers an alternative certification track for military veterans working as a fully licensed teacher in the Commonwealth of Kentucky while obtaining the necessary teacher dispositions that make these veterans successful. The VEST program is also seeking additional components such as a mentorship experience as additional guidance during the military veterans first few years in this new career.
To qualify, must:
- Be a Veteran of the Armed forces who was honorably discharged from active duty or
- Be a member of the Armed Services currently serving with six (6) years or more of honorable service; including Reserves, National Duty, or active duty.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in either an academic content area OR a bachelor’s degree AND a passing praxis exam in an academic content area
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
