What was your experience like with KY VALOR?
I was referred by a former work colleague who learned that I was looking for new employment. Did you face any challenges finding a job?
Yes, I applied to over 200 jobs but only received 4 less-than-ideal interview requests before I connected with VALOR. There are plenty of jobs to apply for but the competition for those jobs was overwhelming. Without having a direct connection to the individuals responsible for hiring at the companies I was applying to, I found that I was just getting lost in the shuffle.
What were your biggest concerns transitioning to the civilian workforce? How did KY VALOR address them?
My biggest concern was not being able to find a job that paid enough to uphold or improve my family’s standard of living. VALOR connected me with the perfect match in the location, industry, field, and work culture that I wanted to be a part of. Without VALOR, I would never have known about what is now my current job.
What advice would you give to others leaving the military for a civilian career?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help as you transition. Utilize any connections you may have from your time in service, but an organization like VALOR has the ability to reach employers that would otherwise likely be out of your reach.
